Yacht Club Builds New Fleet of Wooden Boats

A new fleet of boats dedicated to a younger generation of sailors at the Half Moon Bay Yacht Club (HMBYC) is currently under construction, slated for completion this summer and just in time for the first session of sailing camp.

The finished cost of a wooden hull with all its fittings coming to roughly $1,200.

Humble wooden fishing boat from Scotland to make her mark on Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations

She is just a humble wooden fishing boat with a rusty-red sail: step on board Obair-Na-Ghoal and there is no powerful engine, no cutting-edge technology and no opulent fittings.

Yet this simple little boat from Portsoy in the north of Scotland is making waves throughout the maritime community after being invited to take a starring role in the celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne.

The vessel, a replica of an 18th century herring drifter, will proudly take its place in a flotilla of boats alongside Her Majesty the Queen and other members of the Royal Family at the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on June 3, 2012.
